Sharp Shooter Shovel Edging
Before installing or having your mulch delivered, make sure to weed and clean out your beds of debris and when able, use a shovel to spade edge or shovel edge your beds. This will also help the mulch stay in the beds.
2. Pre-Emergent Weed Fertilizers
Be more aggressive with the weed control by adding some granular pre-emergent fertilizer like Preen or equivalent before adding the mulch.
Add About 3" of Mulch
To help block out the sun while also not having too much mulch, we normally recommend installing about 3" of mulch.

Conclusion: It is easier to pickup with trailer, but about 10% to 20% of the time we will be smarter to have mulch delivered.

We do not have the trailer ability on all crews
Customers think we are gone forever when paying by the man hour and get confused about delivery time
We may need to make 2 to 3 trips sometimes
We may order too much mulch on the trailer
We may order not enough mulch on the trailer and need another trip
Delivered Mulch
Plus Factors:
It depends, it is less expensive way to get the material delivered for some jobs
Negative Factors:
Coordinating with delivery driver takes time
We can stain driveway with dyed mulch and may need to power wash the whole driveway
We may order too much mulch and have to haul off
We may order not enough mulch and need another trip
